UpcOming SelfCare Lectures, Workshops and Demonstrations

Self Care Lectures are informative and entertaining lectures on current health issues offered by our doctors, technicians or food specialists. VitaCare Education Centre offers these workshops at no cost to our patients. In most workshops you will receive handouts or a link to downloadable material, Top Ten Reports, discount coupons and more. As they are held at the clinic, space is limited so we ask that participants call ahead to reserve a spot. 250-585-2150.

As Nanaimo's food bank, Loaves and Fishes, strives to provide healthy food to its clients, we use these lectures as an opportunity for participants and the clinic to share food or monetary donations, which will be passed on to the organization. They do a fabulous job and we feel strongly that every person in our city and on the Island should have access to quality food.

Are You Suffering With Fibromyalgia?

Saturday, January 19, 10-12pm

If you are or someone you love is suffering with Fibromyalgia you are not alone and there is help!

0-2.jpg

Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects approximately 900,000 Canadians, or 3% of the population and has a ripple effect on family, workmates and friends. This condition is often misdiagnosed and under-represented, and thus this number is likely much larger. While research initiatives and treatment options are improving there are still major gaps in providing people with the support and tools they need to optimally improve their health and recover.

In order to help fill this gap, VitaCare is offering a Fibromyalgia support group hosted by Dr. Daniela Jesin, one of our Naturopathic Doctors. Dr. Jesin has a special focus in treating Fibromyalgia and will be sharing her knowledge, as well as, creating a space where you can come and share your experiences, meet other people who may be experiencing similar difficulties, learn about naturopathic treatment options, coping skills, and have interactive and informative discussions.

Achieving Your Big Potential and Leaving a Lasting Legacy

A Four Week Course and Challenge for Writing Your Life

Presented by Beth Hendry-Yim, author and journalist

Sometimes, we need a kick in the pants to fulfill a lifelong dream, at other times we need a different perspective. Either way, it is never, ever too late to pick up a pen or keyboard and record your story!

Shawn Achor, author of the Happiness Advantage, wrote in his latest book, Big Potential, that success is not achieved in a vacuum, it is usually achieved with the support and collective knowledge of others.

That’s what this workshop is all about. Reaching your writing goals, putting your story on paper for others to learn from and cherish and achieving your big potential as a writer.

In this four part workshop, we will cover:

The Write Life, Letting it All Go, Finding The Story, You’ve Got This

Detox Strategies

Tuesday, January 22, 6:30-8pm

Presented by Dr. John Yim, naturopathic physician

Looking to do a detox for your New Year Resolutions? Not sure what the best detox strategy is for you? Find out how to put together your perfect detox program with well-known speaker and naturopathic doctor, John Yim. His lectures are always informative and highly entertaining.

John Yim copy.jpg

“A shocking article published in Dec. 2009 in Scientific American, states that a study by 5 different labs found over 200 man made chemicals in the umbilical blood of newborn babies. These chemicals ranged from ones that can disrupt hormone levels, to ones that can disrupt the liver’s ability to detoxify and also lead to neurodegenerative diseases, to a multitude of ones that are potentially carcinogenic. Although the study cohort was small and done on minority children, it is not a very big leap to state that all of us, men, women, and children are carrying a burden of harmful toxins.

These toxins can lead to symptoms like headaches, fatigue, skin conditions, muscles and joints pains, mood swings, memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, and many others. But besides these nuisance symptoms, they can lead to serious conditions like infertility, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and even cancer.

This is why in today’s world, detoxification is one of the keys to regaining and maintaining optimum health.

In this Self Care lecture, called Detox Strategies, Dr. Yim, with guest speaker Chantal David, LPN, will discuss how to facilitate the removal of toxins from the body.”

You will learn:

  • How and why to support the organs of elimination

  • What does a detoxification diet look like

  • What nutrients flush toxins from the cells

  • Cutting edge techniques to remove toxin from the body

  • How to protect the body from damage during a detox

  • And as always so much more

Join us at VitaCare Natural Health Clinic on Jan. 22, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, for this free and important presentation. Seating is very limited so please call 250 585-2150 to reserve your seat or over the holidays drop us an email at vitacareclinic@shaw.ca.
